She received her PhD in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. Dr. Lockwood provides psychotherapy in English to children, adolescents, and families, virtually and in person.

A Bit About Dr. Lockwood

Dr. Lockwood sees children and adolescents (up to age 19) presenting with a broad range of mental health concerns, including challenges related to ADHD, anxiety, autism, behaviour regulation, grief, depression, identity development, OCD, self-harm, suicidality, and trauma. Dr. Lockwood has a particular interest in play-based approaches for children who would find traditional “talk therapy” challenging. She also specializes in parent consultation and family approaches to treatment, involving parents and other family members in their loved one’s care whenever possible.

Dr. Lockwood grounds her practice in the therapeutic relationship—taking time to build trust and understanding with each child/adolescent in order to then properly individualize treatment (e.g., incorporating visuals and metaphors, noticing thought patterns, practicing distress tolerance, building awareness of internal and relational processes). She takes into account family functioning, life circumstances, and diversity.

Dr. Lockwood has experience working in school board, community mental health, inpatient, and private practice settings. She draws from psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and structural family therapy theory and techniques. Depending on client needs, she also incorporates cognitive behavioural and dialectical behavioural therapy.
